Get in the know! Lake Superior Agates were formed by lava flows!

Agates on the Norths Shore were formed 1 billion years ago by ancient basalt lava flows. The glaciers also got into the mix, dispersing them as they moved througout the region.

Agates can be pebble sized…but some agates have been found that weigh 20 pounds!
